About

CycloFemme Ride in Baton Rouge

In its inaugural ride in Baton Rouge, we are first on the ride list on the CycloFemme global ride website (link). Riding in Baton Rouge is a great way to get out and meet people. Cycling in Baton Rouge provides awesome social opportunities which allow riders to better know the community. We are excited to participate in a global ride celebrating women, and to inspire women of the future!

We have a couple of events leading up to the CycloFemme ride in Baton Rouge that include Ladies Bike Maintenance Workshops. The workshops are intended to enable women and girls to prepare bikes for the ride and to feel more confident about bikes (and maintain bikes!)

Our first workshop on April 22, 2018 was a success. Women and girls brought bikes with flat tires left the workshop with the confidence to repair a flat on the roadside if need be. Confidence in riding and in bike maintenance is empowering for a rider. Be sure to register for our May 6 workshop if you are interested in the Ladies Bike Maintenance Workshop.

Take the CycloFemme pledge and encourage other women to ride:

"CycloFemme is a socially-driven grass-roots celebration of women on bikes. We are of a growing community, for a growing community, and 100% volunteer-based.

Our annual Mother’s Day ride unites riders, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity or bicycle preference to share in the joy of cycling. Year round, our global community inspires and empowers other women, by making their passion public and the joy in cycling contagious. In our first year, 163 rides were registered in 14 countries with many others joining in to celebrate in their own special way. By our third, we grew to 303 rides in 25 countries, including participation from Bicycle Share programs in three metropolitan areas to reduce the barrier of owning a bike. Ride with us as we Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, Empower the Future of Women in Cycling." (http://cyclofemme.com/)

CycloFemme is a Global Celebration of Women created TO HONOR THE PAST from the shoulders of those who stood before us, for the freedom to choose and the chance to wear pants. TO CELEBRATE THE PRESENT with strength and courage, voices raised, moving together. TO EMPOWER THE FUTURE of women everywhere, the backbone of positive social change.

The idea is simple

Each year on Mother’s Day (US), self-led bike rides around the globe unite riders, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity or bicycle preference. Any ride length, type, and size counts, whether two friends, a team or a parade. Mark your 2018 calendars now for Sunday, May 13.

The act is powerful

We share an experience outside in our communities. We feel our literal strength. We lift, push and propel one another. And along the way, we discover—or rediscover— the joy in riding a bike.

CycloFemme was founded in 2012 by Sarai Snyder and the team of women at Language Dept. (principals Tanya Quick + Jenn Cash).
